PD26 part 5: Mystery

So I'm marveling at my little puzzle bags and trying to determine box size for the set because the previous box size would be too big, perhaps around 6 x 6 x 2" (small puzzle box I have in house) could be ideal? Yeah all 4 fit nicely, around that size is good.

I actually found a great box at the craft store and it's black! It's around 8 x 6" and $2.99. I'm betting we can find it cheaper or in bulk online. Holds the bags comfortably and lid stays on snug. I can adhere a label on the top, maybe also bottom -or just include advert inside. This would be for the party set.4

Now Lynn had an idea when I started talking about boxes of a Mystery Egg. She's thinking a 5" egg. I can picture it with a label wrapped around the seal. I did pickup a 5" egg at the store to test a mockup with labeling and see how it comes together.

I think the concept good but I'm on the fence about an egg. I know there's mystery eggs in stores for toys and candy but we don't have a physical presence to just hand these to our customers -we'd have to ship them. And I'm thinking about shipping and how we'd need to find boxes to ship the egg in because in a pouch or padded envelope it'd get broken in transit. Boxes that wont be compatible with any of our other products. What if someone orders more than one, do we need multiple box sizes? How many? What's our window for sourcing 5" eggs? Can we find them year round or just up until Easter? Easter is about a month away so I'm panicking: where are we going to source everything and do we have time for ordering, manufacturing, and shipping in less than a month?? With bulky I'd have add time to make a trip to a post office. I feel like a Debbie Downer with all these doubts!

Ok tested a mockup. I can't print a long enough label to fit around the egg -at least not with the materials I have on hand. If we decide to proceed with the eggs I'll have to have to find longer paper. Also the cardstock is not good for curling around the egg.

Meanwhile, I am enthusiastically on board for Mystery Puzzles in other packaging. We have these cute pink padded envelopes that the bags do fit in. I can design a label for the front and it's sealed for no cheating. I also found black jewelry boxes that fit a single puzzle bag as well. I can design a wrap label that "seals" the box shut and a square reference image for inside. These can both be shipped easily in larger envelopes or in our puzzle shipping boxes for multiple orders. I'm going to work on packaging mockups for these as well.

"Labels" on the outside of these photos are more for placement & not final designs.

After a few tests for the mystery box wrap I think I found the layout I like best. I'm still working on the insert but it's getting close. Then I need to do the envelope label and the party pack label. I also need to order more party pack boxes.
